Job Description:

The Dell EMC CPSD Hybrid Cloud Engineering Team is responsible for developing next-generation solutions leveraging EMC and partner core products and platforms. We deliver systems that provide end-to-end solutions for IT infrastructures with a focus on Hybrid Cloud and Cloud Native application platforms for our customers. We architect, develop, test and document the complete solution stack, generally comprising but not limited to core Dell EMC infrastructure, storage and data protection products, as well as VMware, RSA and Pivotal and Open Source and third party applications.

Principal Software Engineers are members of the Hybrid Cloud Engineering Advanced Development team and are responsible for the technology investigations and market trend analysis to identify differentiating technologies and solution features. As part of this process this principal software engineer will be responsible for architecting and defining a software-based cloud solution offering based on VMware, Pivotal and Open Source technologies and applications, identifying future directions and risks for solution engineering and development teams. The principal activities will range from architecture definition, through tangible evaluations and PoCs, providing recommendations, demonstrating technological and architectural approaches, and prototyping the code as required.

The successful candidate will foster commonality, collaboration, knowledge transfer and community across solutions engineering, development and testing teams to enable the construction of a new cloud native solution offering incorporating Dell EMC infrastructure, storage and data protection products, as well as VMware, RSA and Pivotal and Open Source and third party applications. Ability and demonstrated experience working independently through complex issues in the multiple geographically dispersed cross-functional teams is a must.

General Description

  • Considered an SME in multiple technology areas in order to develop and prototype new architectures which deliver the end-to-end aspects of a cloud-based software solution infrastructure, including both core EMC technologies and also partner technologies such as VMWare vSphere and Photon, Pivotal CloudFoundry and Big Data, as well as AWS and other cloud technologies.

  • The focus of this position will be on designing and prototyping new software architectures for hybrid cloud IT environments based on the latest available technologies.

  • Contribute to and lead definition of a software architectural framework for building a hybrid cloud infrastructure based on Dell EMC converged infrastructure offerings.

  • Work with the architecture and engineering teams to develop product architecture, prototype and guide the implementation of hybrid cloud solution offerings.

  • Analyze technology trends for influence and impact on Dell EMC products, strategy, and technology.

  • Directly contribute to development of technical standards that are important to Dell EMC.

Required Skills

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field

  • Minimum 6 years working in software development as software with strong knowledge of software development best practices and enterprise development environments

  • Strong knowledge of programming languages and tools such as Python, Go, Ruby, Java and Javascript,

  • Working knowledge of automation and orchestration technologies, such as Ansible, Bosh, Puppet, Concourse and Jenkins

  • Strong problem analysis and creative problem solving skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate with internal and external professionals

  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member

  • Experience working in Scrum/Agile team is a must

  • Strong VMware virtualization background developing software products/solutions using vSphere SDK/API

  • Demonstrable combination of deep knowledge of Linux-based systems and software architecture experience

  • Experience designing cloud-integrated multi-component solutions via SDKs, REST APIs, JSON, etc.

  • Experience in clouds with automated deployment methodologies, self-service portals, replication and disaster recovery workflows

Desired Skills

  • Working experience of VMware vSphere and Pivotal Cloud Foundry

  • Working experience developing cloud-native and 12-factor applications

  • Strong knowledge of software-defined networking

  • Development experience with using cloud management portals

  • Experience designing orchestrated cloud-based solutions for automated cloud native application development activities
