ESI Customer Solution Test Engineer - Austin, TX

Dell is looking for a new member of ourExtreme Scale Infrastructure (ESI / DCS) Solutions Engineering Team. Our organization is a fast-paced, “start-up” environment with regular interactions with the Dell DCS / DSS customers. This position will also have direct contact with functional areas across Dell and will be instrumental in setting direction and priorities as a representative of our customer. There will be close collaboration with internal/external Firmware Development Teams, Architecture, System Engineering, Sales, Integration, and PowerEdge teams within Dell. This position offers the opportunity to be part of the growing team responsible for the overall firmware test strategy, process and execution across ESI products, solutions and customers.

This engineer will be responsible for working as a member of a team of solutions and systems engineers to ensure that our firmware releases are of the highest quality and exceed our customer expectations. This individual will work with peer engineers to help define the test strategy for the ESI Solutions, create test plans and test cases to eliminate test coverage gaps and be responsible for ensuring rigorous test execution is completed and that all issues are characterized are addressed properly across our ESI firmware code bases and solutions.

Specific expectations of this position include: - Have deep understanding of DCS and/or PowerEdge products, including devices and technologies such as Server BIOS and BMC, iDRAC, Switches, PDUs, Serial Switches, HDD/SSDs, etc., and deployment / management tools and capabilities. - Have good understanding of Linux and Windows environments and applicability of solutions based on Linux and Windows environment on top of enterprise class dense and traditional server platforms. - Drive the Austin Design Center and Taiwan Design Center technical product development teams to deliver the right products for the customer, and to drive quality into the products during all phases of the product life-cycle. - Work with the development teams to triage and root cause firmware issues post-release, and drive the lessons learned process to make constant improvements to our test strategy. - Contribute to the test strategy definition and identification and closure of test gaps in Dell ESI product solutions.

Experience: - Eight years of experience with a BSEE, BSCS, or equivalent degree. - Strong experience in embedded development testing of server control and management systems. Deep understanding of Linux and strong working understanding of BIOS/BMC and iDRAC Firmware. - Knowledge and experience with IPMI standards. Advanced knowledge of server and storage hardware systems. Emerging Rack Scale Architecture and DMTF’s Redfish knowledge a plus. - Experience working with multiple globally distributed development and test teams and multiple code bases at the same time. - Deployment and provisioning experience of OS and software stacks on server platforms. - Ability to develop Linux / BASH shell scripts, Perl and Python packages to support testing and deployment activities in different environments. - Strong ability in organizing and managing multiple projects, tasks and changing priorities. Working independently under aggressive timelines. - Working ability to drive cross-functional test efforts through conception, planning, implementation and sustaining. - Working insight and skill to effectively manage cultural differences. - Strong experience analyzing requirements, functional specifications, design specifications and other technical documentation and using that to develop test strategies and plans.
