When you’re working in the fast-moving world of technology, product availability is critical – which makes the availability of raw materials for production critical too. Our Material Planning team provides a controlled flow of materials to meet production requirements. We produce detailed schedules, adapting them if necessary to meet backlogs or material shortages, as well as material requirement lists and production plans that balance the demand and supply position of platforms and commodities to optimize product availability and cost. We’re experts at resolving problems with inventory, production schedules or material shortages and recommending procedures to avoid future problems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides input to the segment forecasters and brand teams as to how to forecast their products, including mix assumptions and growth rates.

  • Provides substitute product recommendations to cover severe supply shortages.

  • Develops projected end of life dates for products that are in a left-to-sell countdown based on demand supply efforts and historicals.

  • Understands component lead times and supply flexibility of assigned products to reduce liabilities and increase Continuity Of Supply (COS).

  • Provides Excess & Obsolete (E&O) consolidation and disposition recommendations.

  • Assures Bill Of Material (BOM) structure offers Supply Chain flexibility.

  • Influences supply chain design to increase flexibility and improves inventory utilization.

  • Assesses supply supportability position for Systems and Commodities, identifies mitigation alternatives for Continuity Of Supply (COS) issues.

  • Provides recommendations and influences senior leadership within the function.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years with a Master’s degree; or 3+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience

  • Advanced understanding of demand supply to include: seasonality, Q/Q and Y/Y growth rates, market share goals, price position (WAPP), product life cycle, marcom, sales contests, margin and promotions.

  • Advanced knowledge of order management and fulfillment concepts and processes.

  • Advanced knowledge of forecast methodologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of financial management concepts, including product line P&L.

  • Advanced knowledge of Dell’s Master Sales Plan Forecast Process.

  • Advanced relationship and team building skills.

Preference

  • Precision planning experience at Dell

  • Working knowledge of Enterprise products and large order planning
