Commodity Management within Materials and Procurement develops and implements plans to support forecasted needs for suppliers or commodities. We use our in-depth knowledge of foreign and domestic markets to negotiate supplier agreements and contracts with optimum pricing and terms. We also harness our understanding of commodity qualities, transportation options, risk management and supply chain evaluation models to develop optimal commodity management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

The Global Commodity Management Senior Consultant is a key leader in Dell’s CPU Procurement team managing all Server engagements with internal business partners and suppliers. Establishes and implements strategies for negotiating supplier/commodity agreements based on in-depth knowledge of foreign and domestic markets for optimum pricing and terms. Employs knowledge of commodity qualities, market analysis, product portfolio planning, and supply chain evaluation models to develop and implement optimal commodity management strategies. Negotiates contracts and ensures contractual terms and performance scorecards are being met. Responsible for implementing procurement initiatives and process improvements, and for getting feedback from regions on the success of Dell’s global procurement programs.

GCM will utilize executive level communications, influence, and engagement with senior engineering, marketing, and sales leadership as well as daily interaction with suppliers to gain agreement and address contractual and business requirements. Responsibilities include

-Provide overall management and support for all Server business negotiations covering cost, supply, and all vendor funding agreements

-Lead all negotiations with strategic suppliers necessary to plan and drive Server product portfolio

-Work with internal product managers and CPU suppliers to drive innovation and technology on Dell platforms

-Work closely with suppliers and internal executive stakeholders to identify and prioritize cross-organizational projects that align with strategic priorities

-Perform and coordinate executive presentations related to Server line of business; lead all business reviews and stakeholder engagements

-Engage functional leaders to perform analysis and identify areas for cost and business performance improvement


-Undergraduate degree and 15+ years relevant experience or Graduate degree and 12+ years relevant experience; MBA preferred

-Demonstrated cross-functional engagement and influence across a diverse set of experiences

-Demonstrated operational, program, and implementation experiences including developing risk mitigation and preventative measures

-Demonstrated superior performance at understanding Dell business priorities, customer and stakeholder requirements, and knowledge of competitor practices in order to develop comprehensive strategies, operational plans, and governance systems to meet and exceed goals

-Demonstrated procurement commodity management experience inclusive of contract and pricing negotiations; Relevant product marketing experience beneficial for understanding key business and portfolio strategy

-Proven ability to effectively manage schedules, resources, financial plans and risk

-Proven leadership skills and executive communication skills.

-Demonstrated negotiation skills, business / marketing skills, and effective communication are critical to success in this role.
