Dell Principal Systems Development Engineer in Austin, Texas

Dell is seeking experienced Systems Engineers to join our Enterprise Server Development Team. As a member of our team, you will work across our server portfolio on products based on the most advanced processors, chipsets, memory architectures, and I/O technologies. You will cross engineering disciplines to enable complex hardware designs and systems interactions, mentor new engineers, and research architectures and components that accelerate innovation and improve our products. You will collaborate with multiple teams including Embedded Firmware, Systems Management, Power, Board Design, Mechanical Engineering, Test, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to develop, debug, and deliver industry leading PowerEdge servers that delight our customers.

This Systems Engineering position will

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to design and implement robust, effective, and impactful server hardware, software, and firmware driven solutions across the range of portfolio needs.

  • Integrate Dell system features involving BIOS, CPLD, Control Plane, Systems Management software, and server chipset interfaces.Manage, debug, and resolve defects throughout the program from initial power-on to mass production.

  • Identify and define system requirements through competitive analysis, collaboration, and hands-on Proofs of Concept.

  • Research and prepare White Paper collateral on Enterprise Server Dell technical topics

  • Prepare and present technical leadership readouts on a regular basis


  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 8+ years in hardware or embedded systems design, implementation, and debugging with processor, memory, and I/O subsystems

  • Proven ability to work at the System design level, but also in the circuit and register space

  • Ability to make risk calls, priority decisions, and work through others

  • Strong organization and communication skills in multi-discipline environment

  • Demonstrated history of technical leadership


  • Experience with Enterprise Server design, including planar and system implementations

  • Experience with Server Systems Management & BMC design

  • Experience with embedded systems and/or BIOS
