Technical Staff, Systems Development Engineering

We design and develop electronic and electro-mechanical or systems-orientated products, conduct feasibility studies on engineering proposals and prepare installation, operation and maintenance specifications and instructions. What you’ll achieve

The HPC Technical Staff, Systems Development Engineer will lead research and development efforts for Dell to create industry-leading high-performance solutions incorporating HPC, AI and Data Analytics techniques.

The HPC Development Engineer will:

  • Work with other Dell HPC engineers, architects, developers, product managers, and sales staff to ensure that Dell solutions are best-in-class, matched to customer needs, cost-effective, supportable, and have potential for significant impact and revenue.

  • Design, develop, test, and optimize Dell’s next generation HPC solutions.

  • Prototype and evaluate new technologies. Make recommendations to the business for incorporation of these technologies into upcoming products.

  • Baseline components and benchmark HPC systems.

  • Develop value-added tools and utilities.

  • Maintain relationships with partners' engineering teams and track their technology roadmap to remain aware of new developments. Drive integration of Dell products with technology partners’ product to build leading edge end-to-end solutions.

  • Maintain constant awareness of the HPC techniques and needs of enterprise and research organizations.

  • Attend leading conferences to represent Dell and maintain connections and context.

  • Create vertical solutions for specific use cases in manufacturing, life sciences, finance, energy, or other target industry verticals.

  • Document results in technical reports, white papers, and external blogs. Publish technical conference papers and file patents where applicable.

  • Present at conferences and brief customers on Dell's HPC solutions.

  • Work with the sales teams on RFPs/RFIs that require complex benchmarks.

Skills & Requirements

  • MS/PhD in CS/CE/EE, at least 12 years HPC design experience with proven track record of designing innovative systems.

  • Strong understanding of Linux software environments.

  • Hands-on experience in executing standard HPC system, micro-benchmarks, and applications. Experience with USA federal HPC systems is desirable.

  • Demonstrable understanding of HPC systems architectures and systems software.

  • Demonstrable understanding of multi-core, multi-CPU, GPU system architectures, distributed systems architectures, and scale-out storage software architectures.

  • Experience working with low-latency, high speed network architectures and protocols.

  • Experience with HPC storage and parallel file systems.

  • Experience with provisioning tools, hypervisors, containers, systems management tools.

  • Demonstrated ability in managing complex projects, creating innovative processes and solutions.

  • Problem solving and analysis skills.

  • Team player and team builder skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate at executive high level as well as deep technical level.
