What you’ll achieve

The role of the CTIO Senior Principal Software Engineer is to act in a lead role for new technology initiatives in a fast paced, collaborative environment. An ideal candidate will need to have experience with driving projects from the initial idea, architecture design, and drive technology development in to product using an agile fast fail mentality. A strong technology innovator mindset is necessary to ensure the dots can be connected between multiple technologies as well as customer and industry needs. This position requires an accomplished Software Architect and Software Systems Engineer, who truly understands multiple development ecosystems and platforms, enjoys guiding other engineers, and thrives in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous environment, with a focus on Low Level code projects.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership to a team of developers and engineers on technical solutions, architecture, research, and implementation of new technologies.

  • Leading the development team through technology or solution prototyping efforts using current and next generation software technologies to help broaden Dell’s intellectual property portfolio and influence future product roadmaps.

  • Projects may span multiple technological areas, including cloud-native infrastructure, machine learning, advanced data protection techniques, containers, microservices,open-source software and other emerging technologies.

  • Collaborating with peers within Dell and Dell partners, enabling cross-company efforts.

  • Practicing Extreme Programming and developing, reviewing and implementing test strategies for software products and systems.

  • Developing and designing solutions to software engineering problems requiring frequent use of ingenuity and creativity.

  • Staying up to speed on all current and next generation technologies.

  • Interacting cross-functionally with customers, business units, partners, architects, and senior management to help guide the project from technology ideation through delivery to the product team.

Essential Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • Self-Motivated, Enthusiastic, Energetic and Passionate about technology and working as a part of a team.

  • Ability and Open Mindedness to quickly learn and achieve proficiency of new tools, languages, new development methodologies and cutting-edge technologies with training and on-the-job experience.

  • In-depth technical experience (including emerging technologies) such as – Low Level Software (Firmware, Bios, FPGA development, etc), Cloud Native Software Methodologies, Automation and Lifecycle Management, Public/Hybrid Cloud Architectures and Technologies.

  • Advanced understanding of programming logic and patterns and the ability to learn new programming languages and patterns quickly.

  • Experience in two or more of the following languages: Assembly, C, C++, Go, Java, JavaScript, Python, OpenCL, OpenGL.

  • Knowledge of CI/CD Pipelines and Development tool Experience such as - Jira, Pivotal Tracker, Concourse, Jenkins, and Docker.

  • Strong communication skills and an ability to articulate technical vision while understanding business requirements, with the ability to debate and collaborate with other team members.

  • Advanced understanding of system performance, scaling, operating systems, debugging, network and application administration, diagnosing and troubleshooting software.

  • Understanding of hardware and software interactions.

  • Experience with Linux command line for system configuration and administration.

  • Knowledge of cloud-based software technology landscapes and DevOps ecosystems.

  • Knowledge of streaming protocols, REST API development, and modern design patterns.

  • Experience and practice using TDD to demonstrate functioning code that meets requirements.

  • Agile software development experience that enables shorter development iterations, fast feedback loops, and the quick deployment of problem-free code.

  • Experience working across cross-functional teams.

Desired Knowledge/Skills:

  • Familiar with Storage technologies, Data Management, Data Protection, Networking and Compute Technologies, including software defined aspects.

  • Familiar with Virtualization, Big Data and Analytics, Machine Learning and AI Platforms.

  • Experience collaborating with customers to understand the problem statement/use cases and mapping them to tangible technical requirements.

  • Familiar with or experience in Extreme Programming (XP).

  • Soft Skills: Innovator

Education : Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent

Experience : 10+ years (Bachelor’s degree), 7+ years (Master’s degree), 4+ years (PhD) of software development, software architecture, or applied research; or equivalent experience.
