Dell Lab Support Senior Engineer India - R&D in Bengaluru, India

Lab Support Engineering is at the heart of a worldwide lab operations team providing 24x7 lab access, service and solutions support in multiple locations. Independent and flexible, team members are always ready to adapt to the changing daily priorities. They make an impact in all kinds of ways – from installing and maintaining servers and storage equipment within the fast-paced lab computing environment, through to providing top-level technical expertise and support to engineering departmental users. What’s more, they work with engineering teams to create hardware configuration test plans in support of software development.

RESPONSIBILITIES Provide general architectural level client/server and SAN/storage array support for the configuration and maintenance of the engineering computer lab systems for the lab computing environment. Responsible for participating in the development of test configuration plans for the lab computing environment infrastructure. Responsible for ensuring proper deployment of fiber-channel storage arrays, hosts, switches, software, and storage networking infrastructure. Ensure that the technical environment is properly monitored and that any problems are rectified. Maintain a working knowledge of all documented processes and procedures. Identifies opportunities for improvements in efficiency and responsiveness, makes recommendations and assists to implement efficiencies. Mentor and project-supervise less experienced Lab System Engineers. Identify system or storage performance issues and participate in the development of tools to improve system management. Provides technical expertise in the development of collaborative platform client application/customer interface Identify and execute on proactive and preventative system upgrades.

  • Working knowledge on internals of Dell server at hardware level is required

  • Work and manage the BDC Shared Lab that supports internal and external customers globally under the guidelines of LaaS

  • Work as Lab Technicians supporting a 24/5 work model in 3 shifts.

  • Manage the Lab Inventory that complies with the Global Inventory Control Standard

  • Works collaboratively with peers and customers/stakeholders across regions to provide a consistent approach and delivery of services

  • Maintain in-depth customer knowledge and use models to provide appropriate solutions in I/P/S AAS environment

  • Knowledge on server virtualization expected

  • Maintain a customer service / customer first approach to solving problems

  • Ensure that the technical environment is properly monitored and that any problems are rectified

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all documented processes and procedures

  • Identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency and responsiveness, Makes recommendations and assists to implement efficiencies

  • Mentor and project-supervise less experienced lab system engineers

  • Independently develops solutions that are thorough, practical, and consistent with functional or customer objectives

  • Handles diverse range of issues that require evaluation of a variety of factors including current business requirements

  • Sustain and Continuously Improve the Lab Process, People, and Tools to meet the business requirement for our customers

  • Enhance own knowledge through understanding business needs and objectives.

  • Understands and foresees implications of decisions

  • Presents problem analysis and recommended solutions in a creative and logical manner.

  • Creates new procedures and processes to drive desired results

  • Develops skills to analyze ambiguous problems
