Principal Software Engineer – System Management
The Software Engineering team delivers next-generation software application enhancements and new products for a changing world. Working at the cutting edge, we design and develop software for Data Protection (secondary storage) products — all with the most advanced technologies, tools, software engineering methodologies and the collaboration of internal and external partners.
The Systems Management team is responsible for providing customer centric manageability solutions. The focus of this team is to provide software interfaces to external and internal users to enhance their productivity and reduce operational expenditure. Some of the responsibilities of this team are user interface applications, REST service infrastructure, Health monitoring daemons, custom Linux shell, License management, User management/role based access control, SNMP support, 3rd part product integration solutions, messaging middleware and databases for configuration, monitoring and reporting.

What you’ll achieve
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will create solutions, analyzing the customer’s business goals, needs and general business environment to design technical system answers.
Contribute to the design and architecture of new or re-engineered software in manageability, to reduce operational expenditure to customers
Take part in the full software development life cycle for Data Protection, including development, test, continuous delivery and support
Be an active member of an agile team, collaboratively realizing features through development, test and delivery
Design and lead the effort on automation, CI/CD processes and tools to make our services simpler and more robust
Mentor team members in design collaboration, code reviews, development tools and processes

Hands-on development experience in C on Unix, Systems programming
Working knowledge on any flavor of Unix
REST API development experience
Write functional specification to detail the functional requirements and the use cases
Perform impact analysis and update functional specification
Design and implement features understanding the customer needs to provide best experience to customer
Handling customer issues and delivering patches and hotfixes
Participate in Quality and Customer Support functions for all existing and new products
Working closely with cross functional teams to determine, support, and qualify future requirements
Practice Agile Scrum for higher velocity and faster delivery
Experience in modern architectures like microservices
Ability to convert business requirements to architecture/design
Identifying and selecting right technologies/frameworks
Mentoring and technical guidance to team to drive innovation
8+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years with a master’s degree; or 4+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience
Automation experience with Python
Experience in AI/ML or Data Analytics
Applied Design Thinking and/or User Centered Design (UCD) in projects

Web frontend technologies – Angular, HTML, CSS
Web middle and backend – Java, Spring Boot
Experience in cloud native development and deployment (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Ability to code/debug web applications in live / production environments
Unit testing and automation of software developed
Capacity to achieve proficiency of new tools, languages and operating systems with training and on-the-job experience
UX design skills such as UX mockups, interaction design, visual design is an added advantage. Working experience on UX tools.
5–8 years of related experience with Bachelor’s degree (or 3-5 years experiences with Masters degree)
Experience in Data Center technologies – like storage management, VM management, Disaster Recovery
Experience in Kubernetes, Containers, Microservices, AI/ML
