Principal System Development Engineer

Embedded Server storage engineering team develops Storage Products within Dell Technologies Infrastructure Solutions Group. The Embedded Server Storage Engineering Team is closely tied to most of the development organizations, including the platforms, OS teams, systems management, hard drives, and storage enclosures. We contribute and set the technical and design direction for a storage subsystem in Dell’s Embedded Server Storage team, and responsibility for its implementation into the larger server and storage product lines. This includes feature definition, development process execution and improvement, integration testing, fault isolation and resolution, manufacturing release, and resolution of design issues found in the field and during development.

Here’s what we are looking for with this role:

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience – 8-12 Years

  • Experience in planning, architecting, developing, maintaining test automation frameworks, tools, and scripts using Python

  • Experience in providing feedback to analysts, developers, and project managers on requirements, test solution, and project execution

  • Experience in SAS, SATA, and SCSI protocols.

  • Experience in Windows, Linux, and VMWare OS’s

  • Experience in RAID technologies such as: striping, caching, parity, failure & recovery, redundancy, storage performance, and hardware acceleration.

  • Experience in firmware, device drivers, server, and storage management applications; and application of experience in an enterprise development team

  • Experience with Test Management Tools and industry-standard storage testing tools

  • Experience to identify potential product weakness; provide design guidance and recommendations for improvements to subsequent redesigns; participate in cross-functional development efforts.

  • Experience in reviewing, analyzing, and test software requirements, use cases, user stories, and designs according to test solutions best practices

  • Experience in leading and mentoring engineers

Desirable Requirements:

  • Prior working experience in C or C++ Ability to adapt to and work with numerous functional organizations

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment with frequent software releases

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Possess a positive attitude in stressful situations

  • Demonstrate commitment to quality


  • BS or MS Engineering degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
