Job Title: Principal Software Engineer

Work Location: Bangalore

What you’ll achieve

As a Software Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for developing sophisticated systems and software based the customer’s business goals, needs and general business environment creating software solutions.

You will:

  • Drive and participate in Dell EMC's enterprise VMWare and Linux engineering development efforts

  • Investigate new technologies on enterprise servers and participate in proof of concept activities

  • Drive the adaptation of Linux and VMWare vSphere on PowerEdge servers to meet the product requirements of solution organization

  • Collaborate with OS and Hardware vendors to enable enterprise technologies in operating systems

  • Own and Drive Root Cause Analysis / resolution of identified issues/defects

  • Actively participate and contribute to open-source projects

  • Represent Dell's technical interests within VMWare and Linux vendors through technical discussions, requirements reviews, and code submission

  • Build rapport with Dell EMC internal teams, external hardware & OS vendors and open-source communities to enable next-generation enterprise technology support in VMWare products and Linux distributions

Essential Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience

  • B.E/BTech/ME/MTech degree from a reputed college in Computer Science/Electronics/IT

  • Solid understanding of OS fundamentals (Schedulers, Memory/IO device Management, filesystems etc.)

  • Knowledgeable in Computer Architecture, with good exposure to Hardware, BIOS, UEFI, Firmware and OS layers

  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with enterprise server, storage, networking technologies

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with CI/CD and automation tools such as Ansible/Salt

  • Notable/significant upstream open-source contribution activity

  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with enterprise server, storage, networking technologies

  • Understanding concepts of Software Defined Datacenters and Private/Hybrid Cloud

  • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud environments

  • Experience with VMWare products such as vSAN, vCloud Foundation (VCF), and vSphere

  • Knowledgeable in enterprise systems management stacks (Linux/VMware ESXi preferred)
