EMEA Employment Counsel

What you’ll achieve

This position requires a strong subject matter expert in employment law (both individual and collective) to be responsible for providing effective legal advice and support on employment and other relevant legal issues to HR and managers of all business units and functions across EMEA, covering the whole spectrum of employment law for all of the company's operations in EMEA.

On a team wide level, the role will be expected to participate proactively in team wide and company- wide initiatives to develop and enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and team spirit of the EMEA Legal team and to further improve its strong standing within the Global Legal team and with its clients.

The role will include moderate travel to Dell offices in the region and to court sessions occasionally

You will:

  • Collaborates, trains, communicates, and manages (without being people manager) the internal general counsels in the EMEA countries (“Country Counsels”) as far as it relates to employment law.

  • Provides regular guidance and advice to different HR functions such as core HR, Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits etc. and to Country Counsels as well as people managers. Provides direction and advice to legal team.

  • Areas to cover include day to day employment law queries, country escalations, EMEA-wide queries such as reorganizations, mergers & acquisitions, compensation and benefits, employment litigation, recruiting, employee complaints, employment aspects in customer transactions (in-sourcing) and on employee representation matters.

  • Defines and implements policies and procedures as well as other proactive and strategic items for EMEA employment function, own team and / or legal department.

  • Builds external alliances with partners, customers and industry experts to gain and share information and industry trends.

  • Initiates and provides thought leadership for new or revised departmental procedures, programs and initiatives

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with employment law experience (both individual and collective) in own jurisdiction plus at least additional experience in two or more other jurisdictions in the EMEA region.

  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, adaptability - comfortable working in a fluid environment and eager to delve into new areas as needed, and undertake projects in diverse fields.

  • Analytical with strong problem solving skills – must be detail oriented but not lose sight of the bigger picture.

  • A business minded lawyer who is responsive to client needs and brings a clear, pragmatic and solution driven sensibility, coupled with sound judgment.

  • Advanced ability to manage relationships with country counsels, HR, business and outside counsel.

  • Experience of working within a large matrix organisation

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with European works council welcome

  • UK qualified would be an advantage
