Principal Database Engineer

Who provides the know-how to protect data, tools and information systems at Dell Technologies? It’s the Database Design Engineering and Reliability Enablement team within our Information Technology organization. We develop, design and optimize our information technology and systems functions that support our business processes and technical information systems platforms. Focused on efficiency, performance, availability and platform compatibility, we analyze, select and modify enterprise systems and application software, install network hardware and software and manage our databases – setting system and programming standards along the way.

What you’ll achieve

The right candidate for this role will have a passion to develop solutions and automation to deploy/maintain/troubleshoot large distributed SQL and No-SQL environments. As a Principal Database Engineer you will be responsible for

Designing and supporting critical SQL and NoSQL database systems by using tools, automating the routine operations and approaches to solve a broad spectrum of problems and break fix issues. The use cases include, but not limited to, minimizing time spent on operational work, incident postmortems, and proactive identification of potential issues. The ability to work with cross-functional teams in a rapidly growing environment is important.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelors in computer science or related degree or 10+ years of relevant DBA experience

  • Minimum 7+ years of core DBA experience in MongoDB database technology with expert MongoDB architectural knowledge

  • Proficient in MongoDB and having wide range of knowledge including Deployment and Working expertise of Single and Multi-Datacenter HA solutions: MongoDB Replica Set Sharding. Maintaining very large clusters with multiple shards.

  • Understands best practices for schema design, backup & recovery strategies. Tuning MongoDB to achieve high performance, read consistency, and write durability

  • Expertise in Performance tuning, SQL Tuning Performance Tuning and SQL Tuning for production Mongo

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with other database technologies will be a huge plus - Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, Elastic Search

  • Experience working in a DevOps environment with knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes. Ability to automate routine database maintenance tasks using Ansible, Shell Scripts, Python, etc.
