Lab Support Engineering is at the heart of a worldwide lab operations team providing 24x7 lab access, service and solutions support in multiple locations. Independent and flexible, team members are always ready to adapt to the changing daily priorities. They make an impact in all kinds of ways – from installing and maintaining servers and storage equipment within the fast-paced lab computing environment, through to providing top-level technical expertise and support to engineering departmental users. What’s more, they work with engineering teams to create hardware configuration test plans in support of software development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain expertise in emerging technology industry trends related to cloud computing with a focus on VMware offerings and virtual solutions, cross domain integration, resource management, data services, performance and service level management through specialized or new product training

  • Build and maintain lab server infrastructure such as Cisco UCS through UCS Manager and Lenovo ThinkServers

  • Implement and maintain switch infrastructure to support the server environment including Cisco Nexus converged switches, Cisco MDS, and Brocade fabric switches

  • Knowledge configuring and maintaining EMC storage arrays in a production environment, including capacity sizing/planning, performance analysis and fault tolerance considerations

  • Configure Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery/Backup and Restoration technologies

  • Ability to critically analyze and solve complex problems regarding advanced VMware technologies implemented in an Engineering test environment

  • Work/collaborate cross functionally with team members, internal and external stakeholder organizations, engineering and product management to design and develop appropriate support solutions to maintain a reliable testing environment

  • Set up, configure of complex systems and software.

  • Understand lab infrastructure requirements and makes recommendations.

  • Perform SAN configurations, zoning tasks and troubleshooting.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong technical aptitude and expertise with cloud services and technologies including infrastructure design and deployment.

  • EMC Storage experience (Proven Professional Certification desired)

  • Cisco UCS Manager experience

  • VMware vSphere 5.5 (VMware VCP Certification desired)

  • Brocade Fabric Manager expertise

  • Working knowledge of networking technologies;TCP/IP, UDP, ARP/MAC, DNS and DHCP

  • Skills with configuration of multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux, UNIX, and VMware ESX.

  • Support for infrastructure (24/7)

  • 2+ years’ experience in virtualization hands-oncloud deployments

  • Technical understanding of computer hardware and firmware, BIOS, iDRAC and LOM
