Unified Communications Engineer – Conferencing

Location: Southboro, MA; Hopkinton, MA; or Franklin, MA

General Summary:

Provides strategic planning, innovative solutions and technical knowledge in order to design, implement and support Dell’s Global Unified Communications enterprise Conferencing and related technologies (e.g. audio/video/web conferencing, Skype, digital signage, etc.). Performs requirements analysis and develops hardware/software solutions to provide Conferencing solutions to business requirements. Coordinates and reviews the installation of hardware, implementation of software, reviewing conference management and monitoring tools.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots, isolates and resolves complex unified communications problems

  • Uses appropriate tools available to monitor and troubleshoot unified communications issues

  • Implements design solutions to keep up with and accommodate unified communications expansion

  • Works with senior Unified Communications engineers and other engineering groups with complex global conferencing infrastructures both on premise and hosted; provides innovative suggestions for solutions

  • Assists senior Unified Communications Engineers in implementing major initiatives

  • Stays abreast of current technologies, makes recommendations based on knowledge and research

  • Interfaces with Global providers to develop and implement conferencing solutions

  • Identifies inefficiencies and makes suggestions for process improvements

  • Collaborates with other engineering groups; readily shares information with others

  • Actively seeks customer input and takes responsibility for customer situations if necessary

  • Takes part in local/regional/global 24/7 on-call rotation as required

  • Provides on-site conferencing support for Dell EMC’s offices in Hopkinton, Franklin and Southboro, MA

  • Minimal travel required to major Dell events in North America (approximately 2 trips/year)


  • Bachelor’s degree (technical) with 2+ years relevant experience; or Associate’s degree (technical) with 4+ years experience; or equivalent experience

  • Knowledge with appropriate unified communications solutions such as WebEx (or other web conferencing tools), audio & web conferencing, digital signage, desktop video, multi-casting live and pre-recorded content, etc.

  • Experience working with Cisco and/or Polycom conferencing systems is a plus

  • Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Knowledge of job associated database/software/documentation

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US with no restrictions; visa sponsorship not offered with this position
