The role of the CTO Senior Principal Software Architect is to act in a lead role for new technology initiatives in a fast paced, collaborative environment. An ideal candidate will need to have experience with driving technologies from initial ideation, architecture design, and driving technology development in to product using an agile fast fail mentality. Initial projects will be focused in the Cloud Native and AI/ML technology domains and how they can be utilized, supported, or adopted in to the Dell EMC portfolio. A strong technology innovator mindset is necessary to ensure the dots can be connected between multiple technologies as well as customer and industry needs. This position requires an accomplished Software Architect and Software Systems Engineer, who truly understands multiple development ecosystems and platforms, enjoys guiding other engineers, and thrives in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous environment.
Role and responsibilities:
Providing leadership to a team of developers and engineers on technical solutions, architecture, research, and implementation of new technologies in a small collaborative startup-like environment.
Leading the development team through technology or solution prototyping efforts using current and next generation software technologies to help broaden Dell EMC’s intellectual property portfolio and influence future product roadmaps.
Projects may span multiple technological areas, including cloud-native infrastructure, machine learning, advanced data protection techniques, containers, microservices and open source software.
Collaborating with peers within Dell and Dell partners, enabling cross-company efforts.
Staying up to speed on all current and next generation technologies.
Interacting cross-functionally with customers, business units, partners, architects, and senior management to help guide the project from technology ideation through delivery to the product team.
Self-Motivated, Enthusiastic, Energetic and Passionate about technology and working as a part of a team.
Ability and Open Mindedness to quickly learn about new development methodologies and cutting edge technologies.
In-depth technical experience (including emerging technologies) such as – Cloud Native Software Methodologies, Automation and Lifecycle Management, Public/Hybrid Cloud Architectures and Technologies.
Advanced understanding of programming logic and patterns and the ability to learn new programming languages and patterns quickly.
Knowledge of CI/CD Pipelines and Development tool Experience such as - Jira, Pivotal Tracker, Concourse, Jenkins, and Docker.
Strong communication skills and an ability to articulate technical vision while understanding business requirements, with the ability to debate and collaborate with other team members.
Advanced understanding of system performance and scaling, debugging, diagnosing and troubleshooting software.
Understanding of hardware and software interactions.
Experience with Linux command line for system configuration and administration.
Knowledge of cloud-based software technology landscapes and DevOps ecosystems.
Agile software development experience that enables shorter development iterations, fast feedback loops, and the quick deployment of problem-free code.
Experience working across cross-functional teams.
Familiar with Storage technologies, Data Management, Data Protection, Networking and Compute Technologies, including software defined aspects.
Familiar with Virtualization, Big Data and Analytics, Machine Learning and AI Platforms.
Familiar with Hyperscaler technologies such as AWS, Azure, and Google.
Experience collaborating with customers to understand the problem statement/use cases and mapping them to tangible technical requirements.
Familiar with or experience in Extreme Programming (XP).
Soft Skills: Innovator
Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
Experience: 12+ years (Bachelor’s degree), 8+ years (Master’s degree), 5+ years (PhD) of software development, software architecture, or applied research; or equivalent experience.
