Senior Advisor, Product Management (Data Protection Software)
In this critical role, you will join a dynamic product management team responsible for defining and bringing to market a winning, next generation data protection offering.
Lead the complete lifecycle of the product from concept to rollout. You will help set product strategy, prioritize features, build consensus, and coordinate product schedules with the core program team.
Create and uncover requirements based on your direct contact with customers, prospects, partners and internal teams (sales, support, professional services, etc.); You will develop requirements based on a deep understanding of customer needs/market problems, defining releases that demonstrate clear customer value, identify and fill product gaps, create competitive differentiation and grow market share.
Participate in packaging and pricing decisions
Aggregate and prioritize requirements into MRDs/PRDs in accordance with Agile Methodology; Product planning will include business case justification, competitive analysis and positioning; creating buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners.
Develop business cases for new opportunities or ideas that include- build, buy, or partner analysis, market sizing, competitive advantage, cost, ideal customer targets and optimal routes to market.
Keep a finger on the pulse of our competition, and develop strategies and tactics to reduce the threat.
You will serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, occasionally working to support the sales team and key customers/partners; you could be involved with assisting sales in closing opportunities through product road map discussions and customer/event presentations.
Work with product marketing and marketing communications to help define the go-to-market strategy and support launches by providing key product and market insights; you will need to assist marketing with technical content including whitepapers, presentation creation and training.
Collaborate with other product managers within the Data Protection Division and across the broader Dell Technology businesses to identify opportunities to extend and expand our software products (ex. VMware, SaaS, Appliances, etc.).
As member of the product management team, you are the consummate team player, adept at managing relationships, collaborating and influencing across a variety of organizational functions.
Knowledge of data protection/storage/backup, data management, cloud, SaaS, virtualization and analytics
Possess a passion and understanding of bringing to market enterprise software offerings that customers love
Possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy that includes a big-picture vision and the drive to make that vision a reality.
You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand market problems, and finding innovative and disruptive solutions for the broader market; you should be curious and comfortable holding professional conversations with our target buyers and users.
Familiarity with Agile Methodology including best practice agile scrum development and lean startup principles
Metrics-driven: Strong analytical and synthesis skills are a must, including the ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable information. Track record of using qualitative and quantitative data to prioritize and drive decision-making.
Comfortable using collaboration and CRM tools such as Slack, JIRA, Confluence and Salesforce.
Ability to lead without authority and be comfortable managing chaos, ambiguity and complexity.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak in front of external groups, internal teams and senior leadership
Typically requires 8+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years with a Master’s degree; or 3+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience
Need to have flexibility to travel on occasion
Engineering undergrad or related degree; MBA (highly desired)
Industry experience as a software engineer
