Senior Principal Software Engineer

Location: Hopkinton MA or Remote

The role of the CTOSeniorPrincipalSoftware Engineeris to act in a lead role for new technology initiatives in a fast paced, collaborative environment. An ideal candidatewill need to have experience with drivingprojectsfromtheinitial idea,architecture design,and drivetechnology developmentin toproductusing an agile fastfailmentality.A strong technology innovator mindset is necessary to ensure the dots can be connected between multiple technologies as well as customer and industry needs. This position requires an accomplished Software Architect and Software Systems Engineer, who truly understands multiple development ecosystems and platforms, enjoys guiding other engineers, and thrives in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous environment.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership to a team of developers and engineers on technical solutions, architecture, research, and implementation of new technologies.

  • Leadingthedevelopmentteam through technology or solution prototyping efforts using current and next generation software technologiesto help broaden Dell’s intellectual property portfolioand influence future product roadmaps.

  • Projects may span multiple technological areas, including cloud-native infrastructure, machine learning, advanced data protection techniques, containers, microservicesand opensourcesoftware.

  • Collaboratingwith peers within Dell and Dell partners, enabling cross-company efforts.

  • Staying up to speed on all current and next generation technologies.

  • Interactingcross-functionally withcustomers, business units, partners, architects, and seniormanagementto help guidethe project from technology ideation through delivery to the product team.


  • Self-Motivated, Enthusiastic, Energetic and Passionate about technology and working as a part of a team.Experienceworking across cross-functional teams.

  • Ability and Open Mindedness to quickly learn about new development methodologies and cutting edge technologies.

  • In-depth technical experience (including emerging technologies) such as – Cloud Native Software Methodologies, Automation and Lifecycle Management, Public/Hybrid Cloud Architectures and Technologies.

  • Advanced understandingof programming logic and patterns and the ability to learn new programming languages and patterns quickly.Understanding of hardware and software interactions.

  • Experience in two or more of the following languages: Go, Java, Ruby, JavaScript,C++,Rust, Bash, Python.

  • Knowledge ofCI/CD Pipelines and Development tool Experience such as - Jira, Pivotal Tracker, Concourse, Jenkins, and Docker.Experience with Linux command line for system configuration and administration. Knowledge of cloud-based softwaretechnology landscapes and DevOps ecosystems.

  • Strong communication skills and an ability to articulate technical vision while understanding business requirements, with the ability to debate and collaborate with other team members.

  • Advanced understanding of system performance and scaling, debugging, diagnosing and troubleshooting software.Agile software development experiencethat enables shorter development iterations, fast feedback loops, and the quick deployment of problem-free code.

  • Education: Bachelor’s,Master’s, or PhDDegreein Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. Experience:12+ years(Bachelor’sdegree), 8+years (Master’sdegree), 5+ years (PhD)of software development, software architecture, or applied research; or equivalent experience.


  • Familiar with Storage technologies, Data Management, Data Protection, Networking and Compute Technologies, including software defined aspects.

  • Familiar with Virtualization, Big Data and Analytics, Machine Learning and AI Platforms.Familiar withHyperscalertechnologies such as AWS, Azure, and Google.

  • Experience collaborating with customers to understand the problem statement/use cases and mapping them to tangible technical requirements.

  • Familiar with or experience in Extreme Programming(XP).
