Director, Industry Influence and Strategic Messaging

Location: Remote (US)

Our team is responsible for developing and driving global strategy across the business, making sure our progress is heard externally with a single, unified voice. Together we shape the way Dell Technologies is seen – enhancing our reputation, brand and valuation on the global stage.

This team will be collocated with the broader Corporate Strategy team and will work with the team’s strategy and insights professionals and the corporate communications function to develop a strategic communications plan and drive the content creation process. As the leader of this team, you will:

  • Define a bold, clean voice for Dell’s strategic brand—harnessing our natural strengths, framing our company’s vision, and amplifying our ideas on a global stage

  • Translate our business and technology strategies into a slate of thought leadership topics, which we will fold into a roadmap of internal and external moments to communicate our strategy

  • Partner with competitive intelligence teams from across the company to identify how our traditional and emerging competitors are communicating their vision for the future. Ensuring that Dell has a differentiated take, and stands out as unique

  • Jointly develop a strategic communications plan with our Global Comms team to activate a communications campaign mapped to that slate of thought leadership topics across multiple channels, including Analyst Relations, Investor Relations, Press Relations, Social, etc…

  • Hire and build a world-class team of creatives to build out the content for the thought leadership campaigns. These professionals will possess the experience and domain expertise to opine on the topics of the day, but also embrace new, innovative, and edgy approaches to the creation and delivery of thought leadership content

  • Develop a data-driven approach to evaluate the performance of the campaigns and judge the impact it is having on Dell’s perception

The successful candidate will have experience that bridges product and communications strategy with extensive experience in the technology industry.

Major Functional areas:

Sizzling Story Telling

  • Building stories that sizzle and have substance; develop a voice for the company that stands out from an already crowded field

  • Attract new followers to Dell from beyond the traditional tech press and analyst ranks, particularly focused on business/financial press

  • Mine the world for topics and mediums that are on the move, and most likely to generate buzz

Team Building

  • Attract world-class creative talent and nurture it

  • Hire, train, and retain a new generation of strategic communications specialists; hire talent that can borrow best practices from industries where unique storytelling is required

  • Great communications is a team sport, hire talented team players

Media and Influencer Trends and Analysis

  • Understand the current & future trends in the media and amongst influencers that will move the needle and drive improved perception if addressed by Dell

  • Develop a relationship with key media and influence in partnership with Corporate Communications

  • Analysis of the competitive messaging landscape, and how our competitors are using story-telling and communications strategies to improve/shift perception

External Receptivity Analysis and Outreach, Industry Trend Analysis

  • Driving relationships with industry analysts, developing and communicating Dell’s Enterprise direction

  • Driving customer outreach activities including presentations at Dell’s Executive Briefing Center, customer roadshows, and traditional primary research activities

  • Attendance and presentation at key Enterprise IT industry events

Internal Stakeholder Alignment

  • Align and coordinate a singular strategic communications strategy for the Corporate Strategy business in partnership with Corporate Communications.

  • Work with Dell varied routes to market to understand customer sentiment to understand what they believe will move the perception needed

  • Align with CTO office

  • Work with Marketing and Corporate communications on defining our market message for Dell Technologies and initiatives developed

Qualifications

Skill-sets & Experience:

8-12+ years of experience in the IT product marketplace including:

  • Product/Offer Planning and Marketing

  • Corporate Communications

  • Corporate Marketing/Brand

  • Industry Analyst/Influencer

  • Deep Technology knowledge and strategy

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
