What you’ll achieve

Work side-by-side with technical content editors and illustrators, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to create technical information for company products. Research, retrieve, organize, analyze, and synthesize complex subject matter into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand information deliverables. Write, edit and proof hardcopy and online documents for consistency. Examples: reference documents for hardware and software products, code, user interface tests, white papers, Application Program Interface and Command Line Interface Documentation, online help systems. Ensures all deliverables are technically and mechanically accurate. Collaborates with department team members, engineering, marketing, services, legal, regulatory and others to develop content for standard documentation sets, software and special initiatives in-line with the development cycle. Create and manage document schedules, content management, and information architecture. Maintain content, tools, application access, account administration, and workflow administration. More experienced writers may train outside business groups as needed on tools, applications, reporting, and content workflow needs.

You will:

  • Adhere to company branding, information, and writing standards to publish content for many different audiences in multiple formats. Understands how company's technologies work and add value to customers.

  • Employ various authoring and desktop publishing software tools to publish deliverables to multichannel platforms.

  • Analyze user information and user experience (UX) requirements.

  • Use feedback to propose improvements to product development and support services.

  • Responsible for executing project plans and delivering accurate and timely technical information.

  • Contributes to planning and overall design of technical information, including installation, operation, and maintenance instructions, and other types of technical content such as technical advisories and release notes.

  • Helps to establish content strategy, content governance, and UX standards within and across work groups.

  • Actively seeks customer input and takes responsibility for internal and external customer situations. Acts as a customer advocate.

  • Understands best practices for content development, design, and user experience within a given software development environment such as Agile.

  • Creates content plans that include user stories. Evaluates technical content against UX benchmarks and user information requirements.

  • Manages content development activities in localization/internationalization projects.

  • Acts as a customer advocate in UI development activities and provides verbiage based on customer workflows and use cases.

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for content development.

Essential Requirements

  • Ability to analyze information and draw accurate conclusions

  • Communication skills, Problem solving skills, Project management skills, Presentation skills, Mentoring/Coaching skills

  • Technical writing skills and familiarity with technical content development, design, and UX strategies and methodologies.

  • Understanding of technical content authoring and UX workflows

  • 8+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years with a Master’s degree; or 3+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with HCI and virtualization technologies preferred.

  • Candidate would ideally have experience writing for the manufacturing industry. For example the Factory Talk Platform at Rockwell Automation, or others at Siemens, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls,. Manufacturing, industrial automation, factories, robots, SCADA (control system) WWT (World Wide Tech). Also writing about solutions for Smart Cities (5G), Retail, Analytics, Private 5G, and Enterprise Edge

  • Knowledge of industry standards such as DITA, XML, and HTMLKnowledge of job related content authoring, publishing, and graphic design tools
