Service Provider Lab Support Engineer 2
About Business Unit And Team:
We are looking for talented, driven, self-starter individuals to join our Service Provider solutions & products engineering team. The role requires the ability to manage the lab and support global engineering organization to conduct development, and delivery of software products for the Service Provider market. This market consists of Communications Service Providers (i.e., Telco, cable), Managed Service Providers, Hosting companies, Content Delivery Networks, Cloud providers and Consumer/Enterprise Web Technology providers.
Our engineering team is responsible for the creation and delivery of great software products and solutions. The team works closely with the Service Provider product management team, who are our counterpart within the same organization. Together, we have a strong track-record of creating unique value for Dell EMC, with a strong positive impact on the company’s bottom line. The ideal candidate for these positions will be an entry to mid-career individual, who has willingness to work with team and be able to manage tight timelines. The individual must have an inquisitive mind, be a self-learner, be an excellent communicator, and above all, be efficient in everything they do. The individual will be working with a geographically dispersed team, so previous experience operating in global teams will be a plus. Any experience with Dell EMC servers, storage, networking switches will be a plus.
Key Skills/Experience Needed For The Role
Must have experience and qualifications
Prior Experience Dell EMC hardware – Server, Storage and Networking. Bring up, triage and provisioning
Bring up of an entire rack of infrastructure – networking configuration, server provisioning and storage
Proficiency with Linux environments
Experience with server management platforms such as Dell OME, OMNM etc.
Basic understanding of scripting – BASH, python or others
Some hands-on experience with using using and deploying virtualization (e.g. ESXi, KVM) and/or containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
Communication skills – written and oral
Have a high-level attention to details, balanced with high-level understanding of processes to drive improvements
Ability to multi-task and prioritization of tasks at hand based on business priorities
Able to effectively explain technical issues in non-technical terms
Familiarity with operation and use of server lifts.
Capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
Capable of working on ladders to install cable.
Thorough understanding of IP and VLAN routing and basic network design.
Able to troubleshoot server, desktop, and laptop hardware and perform repair/upgrades as needed.
Understanding of Active Directory and Domain accounts.
Understanding use/setup of KVM and Serial consoles (Avocent).
Knowledge of proper installation of rack mounted equipment.
Installation, maintenance, and removal of copper and fiber cabling in an active environment.
Familiarity with patch panel use, CAT5/6 and Fiber cable types, use of DHCP server setup, Active Directory server, PXE Boot, HTTP Proxy
Knowledgeable with performing firmware updates to networked equipment.
Strong Project Management skills, ability to coordinate projects across multiple teams/vendors as needed.
Able to work independently and drive projects to completion in a timely manner.
Strong multitasking skills.
Understanding of the duties corporate IT and Facilities have and how to best interact with these teams.
Able to work with 3rd party vendors for equipment ordering, installation, and maintenance as needed.
Understanding of UPS and HVAC function, monitoring, and maintenance in a server environment.
Understanding of 3 phase power, and power load balancing.
Understanding of hot/cold isle server room configuration, and optimization of cooling.
In-depth knowledge of ESD and EHS procedures and guidelines.
Knowledgeable in backup and antivirus software and their use.
Equipment ordering, including equipment selection and specific configurations.
Office and technology supply recommendation/ordering.
Ability to understand unforeseen challenges and respond/resolve these in a timely manner.
