Dell Technical Staff Systems Development Engineer (Concept Engineering) in Round Rock, Texas
As part of the Server and Infrastructure Systems Group at Dell EMC, The Concept System Engineering Team: delivers hardware implementation definitions for all PowerEdge servers. Initially working closely with Product Planning and Advanced Engineering to develop and refine product definition and demonstrate feasibility during the early phases of development. CSE then engages with development engineering teams to handoff designs once features and risks are well understood. In this dynamic environment, we lead early development of multiple server products concurrently. Scope of each program includes motherboard architectures, chassis and thermal development, storage and I/O topology definition, and ideation through concept development on new technologies and feature sets.
As a member of our team, you will define the hardware concept designs for a server product or family of products in our PowerEdge server portfolio based on the most advanced processors, chipsets, memory architectures, storage solutions and I/O technologies. Create industry leading designs that support cutting edge technologies such as: Machine Learning, Hyper Converged Infrastructures, Virtualization, and Modular infrastructures among others. Work with a cross-functional team of Engineers, Architects, Product Planners and Advanced Procurement to define market leading products. Influence key decisions by bringing design and knowledge based facts into tradeoff discussions to help us continue to define great products.
In this Concept System Engineering position you will
Study and ensure feasibility of new technologies and design methodologies to reduce risk in the product concept for development teams to implement.
Refine the Product Definition by driving feature and configuration tradeoffs early to optimize the design, feature and cost position of the product and portfolio.
Reduce program risks by performing and coordinating studies that explore the best methods for implementing new technologies.
Define product architecture for handoff to development engineering enabling a fast and effective ramp into development.
Use your experience planning and managing projects to a schedule to predictably hit milestones
Collaborate broadly across PowerEdge internal and external engineering teams to define, drive and coordinate necessary technology components that enable your product.
Identify and define system requirements through competitive analysis, collaboration, and hands-on Proofs of Concept.
Work closely with procurement to refine initial system cost goals
Research and prepare White Paper collateral on Enterprise Server technical topics
Prepare and present technical readouts to cross functions and executives on a regular basis
BS in Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering and minimum 15 years’ experience in hardware design of complex computing / IT systems. Or, MS degree and 12+ years’ experience.
Ability to make risk calls, priority decisions, and work through others
Strong organization and communication skills in multi-discipline environment
Experience with Enterprise Server design, including planar and system implementation
Experience with RAS requirements, design, and solutions
Demonstrated history of leadership
