Dell Software Quality Senior Engineer (Storage & NFS Protocol Testing) in Santa Clara, California
The Software Quality Senior Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining software test suites for Data Domain File Systems. He/she ensures the product is well tested with high quality to catch software defects early before customers report them. He/she must also coordinate with multi-functional scrum teams to execute tests against their code to help them achieve their goals. This position requires a highly competent, results-oriented, self-directed software testing professional with a good test automation background.
The Software Quality Senior Engineer is expected to be able to work with a variety of development environments and operating systems (Linux and MS Windows). The individual should be proficient in testing methodologies, programming and scripting languages, and various automation techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review technical software specifications in order to create corresponding manual or automated test cases.
Responsible for implementation and execution of testing in accordance with test plan specifications.
Review existing DDFS functional test suites to find testing gaps and drive the development of new tests to ensure proper test coverage.
Write automated test scripts in Python promptly to help other QA staff perform functional and stress tests.
Submit detailed bug reports that provide enough debugging information for the development teams to quickly resolve all product defects.
Work closely with the development teams to test code changes for finding bugs early.
Assist in the development of tools which will be used to improve our test automation efficiency.
Experience in QA testing with knowledge in storage testing.
Experience with NFS, CIFS and/or DDboost protocols.
Experience with open-source I/O workload generator tools such as FIO, iozone, dbench, etc.
Experience in testing protection storage for backup, archive and disaster recovery is a plus.
Experience in working in Unix and VMware environments.
Ability to triage storage product failures going through logs and traces to quickly identify which components causing the failures.
Familiarity with Agile software development and QA processes, principles, and techniques.
Ability to work independently and as a member of global project teams.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent engineering degree
Education and Experience Level:
Typically requires 5+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3+ years with a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent experience
