Server Quality Principal Engineer

In Quality Engineering we play a central role by developing, implementing as well as maintaining technical quality assurance and control systems. We look for ways to improve the inspection, verification and validation of our finished products. Our team defines strategy – not to mention governance – for the implementation of quality standards and methodology. In addition to participating in the review of engineering designs, we assist customers or engineers in gathering and analyzing data.
The Dell Server Quality Engineer will be a strong technical resource and quality liaison who will partner with internal and external customers and suppliers to drive real time improvements in design and process of the commodities used in the power and compute subsystems (power supply, memory, CPU, motherboard), to improve field performance and customer experience on current and future products. Team member will be required to use structured product failure data, unstructured customer feedback, and direct customer feedback to prioritize activities. Specific responsibilities include:
Monitor field performance to identify issues and allow for early investigation and mitigation
Drive investigation, capture, root cause failure analysis, containment, corrective actions, and process improvements to prevent issue recurrence
Conduct effective CLCA (Closed Loop Corrective Action) through the use of 8D methodologies and document lessons learned to prevent recurrence of quality issues
Lead QETs (Quality Extended Teams) across critical commodities used in the Server application and drive effective communications for improved engagement and accountability across the value chain
Ensure continuous improvement through effective partnerships with internal and external parties such as vendors and ODMs
Influence procurement decisions by providing analysis of supplier field performance
Provide quality inputs for new products/programs, including setting quality goals and managing performance to goal
Utilize effective CPM (Changepoint management) to verify changes result in expected performance
4 year Degree in Engineering related field (electrical, systems, computer) and 6-8+ yrs of related experience. Graduate degree preferred.
Strong computer skills (Excel proficiency required and SQL aptitude a plus)
Demonstrated accountability in a self-directed as well as team environment
Experience influencing and coaching people of all levels
Experience applying 8D methodology effectively
Strong communication and leadership required
Strong project and change management background
Fluent in English and Mandarin languages required
Experience working with global teams preferred (this position reports to a remote manager)
Power engineering background a plus
