Manager, System Configuration Automation

Join us as a Software Engineering Manager on our System Configuration Automation team in Cork, Ireland.

What you’ll achieve:

As a manager within Infrastructure Engineering & Operations you will be responsible for delivering systems configuration and administration automation for multiple device types in engineering labs across the globe, with the primary goal to provide secure and consistent systems to users and lab managers, at scale. You will also be responsible for delivering a repository of secure and standardized OS templates and bare metal images to environments across globally distributed labs.

We are providing an opportunity to help drive a unique project of corporate-wide impact and need a technical manager who will manage a software engineering team, based in Cork, Ireland, St Petersburg, Russia and Bangalore, India. The successful candidate will report to the Director, Infrastructure Orchestration & Software Engineering, who is based in Cork, Ireland.

You will:

  • Oversee a geo-dispersed team, support their professional development, and encourage and inspire them to excel both individually and as a cohesive group

  • Be responsible for setting up the internal and cross-team processes and implement Agile and DevOps principals in alignment with organizational standards

  • Coordinate with Infrastructure Orchestration & Software Engineering leadership to align with release schedules and roadmaps across multiple applications, teams and services.

  • Capture, plan and prioritize business and technical requirements and regularly communicate with stakeholders on progress and milestone achievement

  • Update various operational and reporting systems, such as Jira and Confluence

  • Engage with local HR, Facilities and other functions as required

Essential Requirements

  • University Degree with a major in Computer Science or equivalent

  • Must have minimum of 2 years leading/managing software development and/or DevOps teams

  • Experience with requirements clarification and capturing, work planning, documenting solution design, development tasks decomposition and tracking

  • Great communication skills, sufficient to lead international technical discussions

  • Experience with both Agile and DevOps software development methodologies

  • Experience of configuration management tooling such as Ansible

  • Have executed systems configuration and administration transformations from manual to automated execution.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with security / cybersecurity tooling in areas such as updates/patching, anti-virus and secrets management

  • Good knowledge of software development and testing principles, product development lifecycle and associated tools and systems.
